In 1997, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Performance and Sport from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. My program taught me a great deal about the human body, including the physics of movement; how exercise affects you physically at the system, organ, and cellular levels; and how to incorporate physical activity into your lifestyle according to your goals (for example, plans to help you reach your athletic goals will vary considerably from plans to help you reach your weight loss goals). I have used this training extensively in designing exercise programs for patients as well as training regimens for athletes.
In 1999, I graduated with my Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado, and after passing my licensing exam, began practicing as an orthopedic outpatient physical therapist. My area of specialization is the spine, and I treated patients in-clinic for over 12 years for issues relating to head-aches, neck pain, upper back and rib pain, low back pain, and pelvic/SI joint pain.
In addition to my university programs, I earned post-graduate certifications relating to the area of spine specialization, including a Pilates Rehabilitation Specialist Certification from Polestar Education in 2000, as well as a Manual Therapy Certification from the University of St. Augustine in 2007. Additionally, I completed many post-graduate seminars relating to my areas of specialization and interest, including seminars on diet and nutrition.
In 2013, I made the decision to return to school to further my nutrition education. I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and over 100 dietary theories (from Ayurveda, gluten-free, and Paleo, to raw, vegan, and macrobiotics, and everything in between).
I studied with the world's top health and wellness experts including:
Joshua Rosenthal, founder and director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition
Dr. Andrew Weil, director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine
Deepak Chopra, MD, leader in the field of mind-body medicine
Dr. David Katz, MD, MPH, director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center
Dr. Walter Willett, MD, DrPH, chair of nutrition at Harvard University
